Sterling Silver and Abalone Wrap Ring

Dress it up or dress it down. This Abalone and Sterling Silver ring is so rare that it looks equally at home in all situations - from jeans to cocktail party.  The Abalone shell is set in a Sterling Silver band. The ring is not a complete circle, allowing for slight variations in size.  The swirls of blues, greens, purples, pinks and golds flash with an iridescent rainbow fire.  The ring is a product of nature so no two pieces are exactly the same.

From the outside, the abalone is a chunky, plain looking mollusk with a thick irregular shell from the genus Haliotis. When opened however, the abalone reveals a shimmering, iridescent interior made of nacre, the substance secreted by certain mollusks as a means to insulate the shell and to hold off bacterial infections and parasites. Abalone is valued for the rich color of its nacre which can range from silvery white to green-red to deep blues, purples and pinks depending on the species.
